We have a well-equipped ICT Lab at Potterhouse School. All desktop machines are connected to a high speed wired network and a broadband Internet connection. Printing facilities are provided within the lab.
ICT in Year 9
Students have two lessons of Computing per week, with all classes being taught by a subject area specialist.
ICT in Years 10 and 11
At Potterhouse we follow the EdExcel IGCSE ICT syllabus; This course provides the necessary skill set for the students to develop as confident users of ICT systems and applications.
Learning ICT provides an opportunity for students to develop the necessary skills they can apply in everyday life. The course focuses on developing the student’s practical skills and is interesting, challenging and applicable.
The course comprises of both theory and practical lessons and consists of tasks that replicate real-life ICT scenarios in today’s global society. The practical elements ensure that the students internalize and retain the essential ICT skills learnt in all the modules taught. This ICT course also develops the student’s problem solving skills. Students will also gain insight into how computer networking, databases, programming, internet communications, e-commerce systems and web design are set up.
The course is assessed through both written and practical examinations. Students will be tested on two papers. One practical papers which count for 50% of the final mark (externally assessed) and one theory paper which counts for the remaining 50%.
